Biography : Lindsey Nobel is a mixed-media artist living and working between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Her art employs various media to express the human experience in our complex digital and interconnected world; where data defines our existence. Nobel’s artistic process stems from investigating memory, dislocation and environment. Her art is about the invisible virtual connections that we create, and the human relations that they spawn. Nobel reminds us that the data that we generate as we move through the infosphere crosses a boundary point, where it leaves our possession, and becomes the tool of a corporation or government. In 1992, she began a drawing language that strives to show our connection to the vast, invisible network that digitally tracks our movements in the world, and exposes the grid to which we are all ultimately attached to. Nobel attempts to insert a modicum of hope into her artwork that foreshadows the eventual Singularity when artificial intelligence is utilized to eliminate the pain and suffering of the human existence. Born in 1969 in Baltimore, Maryland, Nobel attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, and graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. She also attended the Royal College of Art through the University of California, Los Angeles, where she studied figure painting. Lindsey continued her education at the Museum School in Boston. After Graduating from University of California at Santa Cruz she moved to San Francisco. Nobel has also lived in Rome, and in the Chelsea Hotel, Tribeca, Brooklyn and Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. Nobel moved to Los Angeles in 2008 where she worked in various studios from Malibu to Inglewood. She currently splits her time between her studio in the Artists District of downtown Los Angeles, and an avocado farm in Santa Barbara. Detailed Description : Mixed Media Artist
