  • Neil Anderson

    Neil Anderson

Biography : Neil Anderson (b. 1933, American) is a contemporary painter heavily inspired by the natural landscape surrounding his studio in rural central Pennsylvania. He describes his work as nonrepresentational rather than abstract and explains that after the initial drawing, the emerging colors, textures and shapes are all improvised. The meaning of the painting arises from the unexpected occurrences of formal arrangement that happen in the process of working toward a conclusion where all the parts will become interdependent. Anderson received his MFA from the University of Iowa and later became a long-time professor of art at Bucknell University, teaching there for 41 years and retiring in 1999. Neil Anderson primarily works in oil and watercolor, with occasional forays into printmaking and on-site projects focused on the environment and natural phenomena. His work has been featured in notable group exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and exhibited in numerous solo shows in Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. He is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, and Temple University’s Fox School of Business among others. Anderson has been featured in such publications as The New York Times, Art in America, Arts Magazine, ART news, and The Philadelph ia Inquirer . He lives and works in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. • Alejandro Diaz

    Alejandro Diaz

Biography : Based in New York City, Alejandro Diaz is originally from Texas where he developed an exciting and pertinent body of work exemplifying the complex and visually rich cultural milieu particular to South Texas and Mexico. Diaz’s conceptual, campy and political cardboard signs - which he began making and selling on the streets of Manhattan in the late 90s - are emblematic of his recurrent use of everyday materials, his humor infused politics, and his ongoing involvement with art as a form of entertainment, activism, public intervention, and free enterprise. The ongoing cardboard signs series continues to evolve with some of the sayings now being produced in neon. In 2003, Diaz created a major installation for the Havana Biennial, I ♥Cuba, an installation of free souvenir items emblazoned with the artist’s twist on the familiar New York slogan. He was commissioned by the Public Art Fund, New York’s premier presenter of public art, to create 4 large-scale sculptures for the grand concourse in the Bronx (2006). In 2007 Diaz was the recipient of the prestigious Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award and was selected to participate in a major group exhibition at LACMA, Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement which then travelled to Mexico City, Houston, and New York. In 2009 Diaz presented a solo project at the critically acclaimed Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, CT. Diaz has had a solo exhibition at Jessica Murray Projects, NY (2001) and has lectured on his work at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Drawing Center, NY. His work is included in the permanent collections at the RISD Museum, LACMA, Fundacion Jumex, Museo del Barrio, NY and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Scottsdale, AZ. • Tim McFarlane

    Tim McFarlane

Biography : Tim McFarlane, a native of Philadelphia, PA, was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and later attended Temple University, where he earned a BA in Art. McFarlane also studied at the Barnes Foundation and attended classes at the Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial. As a boy, McFarlane took an early interest in art via comic books and art classes in school. However, it wasn’t until the last two years of high school that he became actively involved in the study and practice of art, particularly painting. McFarlane studied the works of Old Masters and French Impressionists to gain an understanding of color and composition. The shifting space of memory, influenced by time, forms the foundation of content for his paintings and works on paper. As meaning and influences evolve from day-to-day, the residue of the past lingers and with that are attempts to reconcile new information and knowledge with what is known, or imagined, of the past. In his paintings, overlapping forms and fractured spaces that alternately support and negate each other, act as metaphors for changes that occur in everyday life. Shifts in relationships, spaces and perception, some subtle and others jarring, contribute to the psychological content in McFarlane’s work. His paintings and works on paper are made with a combination of open and opaque layers that incorporate various modes of mark making, including direct painting, drawing, image transfers and stenciling. Taken together, this forges a sense of interdependence, history and chance happenings within the works, and, in turn, allows room for multiple meanings in his paintings. Tim McFarlane currently lives and maintains a studio in Philadelphia. McFarlane has been exhibiting since 1992 and has work included in several private and corporate collections. • Dina Wind

    Dina Wind

Biography : Originally from Israel, Dina Wind came to the United States in 1963. She earned her B.A. from the Hebrew University [Jerusalem, Israel], M.A. from the University of Pennsylvania [Philadelphia, PA], and a certificate in art appreciation from the Barnes Foundation when it was located at its former campus in Merion, PA. Wind additionally studied under the sculptor Leon Sitarchik. She had numerous solo exhibitions in both the Philadelphia area and New York throughout her career and was a longtime member of both Nexus Gallery in Philadelphia and Veridian Gallery in New York. Artistically descended from Abstract Expressionism, Wind started her art training in studio painting classes with Sam Feinstein, an artist/teacher who studied with Hans Hoffman. Wind painted from the early 70’s to the mid 80’s, when she switched mediums to metal sculpture, which she studied in studio classes starting in the early 80’s. Her latest work included individual metal sculptures, several series of metal wall sculptures, and floor installations, all of which have been described as “drawing in space." Instead of a brush and canvas, Wind works with cast-off materials such as abandoned car parts, industrial cut outs, pewter kitchenware and discarded tools. She transforms this detritus, the bane of the urban landscape, into lyrical compositions accented by deep glowing colors and linework. In 2006, Wind additionally started to create 3-Dimensional works on paper. Artist's Documents: Dina Wind Artist Resume
